Summer Solstice Ceremony

Hey you guys! HAPPY SUMMER!!!

My summer actually started June 14, but OFFICIAL summer just started yesterday... and to kick things off, we (friends and I) decided to welcome summer in a rather... unconventional way (at least for us).

Earlier in the year, I read this Vogue article on Summer Solstice being also a day that witches get to harness the most of their powers and all that, y’know, magical stuff. And because I love all things magical and celestial and oooooh, I was ecstatic on turning our usual summer bring-on-the-80-degree-weather-dayzzz day to a total witchy ceremony.

If you're down on having a totally bewitching Summer Solstice next summer, read more about our ceremony to gather some ideas for your own! Here were some of the fun activities we did witch I absolutely loved:

1. Create a witch name

✦ Now that you're a witch, you need to have a cool, mysterious name! You can always look up witch name generators or create a completely unique one through funny combinations. For our witch names, we combined: the last 2 letters of your first name, the middle letter(s) of your last name, the first 2 letters of your mom's name, and the last letter of your dad's name. Feel free to create your own quirky combination.

2. Swear a witch oath (or four)

✦ Make sure its something you actually agree with and support - you know, just in case they actually work! :0

3. Make tarot / affirmation / spell cards

✦ If you have gold or silver pens or markers, those would be ABSOLUTELY IDEAL because they look STUNNING on black paper!!

4. Decorate stones

✦ Stones and crystals are generally associated with witches because they are often believed to hold certain powers or curses or the like. Now, I'm pretty sure the typical stones from your backyard isn't gonna let you turn a prince into a frog, but it's still fun to decorate! You can "carve" your witch name onto the stone as a souvenir!

5. Decorate cookies

✦ Okay, so I don't know how this actually relates to our theme... but I mean, witches need to be treated to something nice every now and then, right? ;)

6. Blast Lana del Rey and Lorde!!

✦ Because I don't think it gets anymore witchy than that.

Also of course, food is essential for ANY parties - whether it be for humans or witches!

We were really open about our food options (mostly because we're just some really hungry gorls), but our general theme was dark colors. So we simply had brownies and DELICIOUS Cookies & Cream Poptarts!! Oh- and one of my favorite part of our ceremony was turning our lemonade black / purple / midnight blue with magic (er, food coloring). It definitely added to the mystic feel.

Styling for a party is always my ultimate FAVORITE part of any events!! Take inspiration from witchy icons such as Lorde, Lana del Rey, Taylor Momsen, Stevie Nicks, Phoebe (Friends). But overall...

this event is your number one chance to EMBRACE your inner emo!! Think loads of black, but with a touch of glamorous. Chokers, RINGS, drapey necklaces are a total must!
